Frequently Asked Questions
Should I use a V60 or Chemex for Kenyan filter coffee?
V60 highlights Kenya's bright acidity and complex fruit notes more vividly, thanks to its thinner paper filter yielding a clear cup. Chemex, with its thicker filter, softens acidity for a cleaner profile. Choose V60 for bold flavors and Chemex for a smoother experience.
Why does my Kenyan filter coffee taste sour?
Sourness typically signals under-extraction. Try raising your water temperature to 94°C, extending brew time, or grinding one step finer. Kenya is naturally acidic, but with proper brewing that acidity transforms into a sweet, fruity brightness.
How much caffeine is in Kenyan filter coffee?
A standard cup (240ml) of Kenyan filter coffee contains roughly 95-120mg of caffeine. The exact amount varies with brew time, coffee-to-water ratio, and grind size. Despite Kenya's intense flavor profile, its caffeine content is comparable to other Arabica origins.
