How to Make Cold Brew Coffee: Complete 12-Hour Recipe Guide
What Is Cold Brew?
Cold brew is the method of brewing coffee with cold water instead of hot, over an extended period (12-24 hours). It is not the same as iced coffee — iced coffee is hot-brewed coffee poured over ice, while cold brew is brewed cold from the start.

Cold Brew Recipe (1 Liter)
Ingredients
- 100g coarsely ground specialty coffee (1:10 ratio)
- 1 liter filtered cold water
- 1 large jar or cold brew steeper
- Filter paper or cheesecloth
Step by Step
Step 1: Grind the Coffee Grind slightly coarser than for French Press. Too fine causes cloudiness and bitterness. Ideal size: sea salt grain.
Step 2: Fill the Jar Add 100g coffee to a wide-mouth jar. Pour 1 liter cold filtered water. Stir gently — all coffee should be wet.
Step 3: Cover and Wait Seal the jar. Steep at room temperature for 12-18 hours or in the fridge for 18-24 hours. Longer = stronger but eventually bitter.
Step 4: Strain First strain: separate large particles with cheesecloth or fine sieve. Second strain: pass through coffee filter paper (slow drip — be patient, 15-30 min).
Step 5: Serve Cold brew is concentrated. Dilute 1:1 with cold water or milk. Plenty of ice, optional syrup.

Best Coffees for Cold Brew
Cold brew works best with chocolatey, nutty, caramel profiles. Fruity coffees work too, but choose lower-acid ones.
